For a short break or a country holiday, there can be few areas able to offer the richness of choice and the striking contrasts that make the pretty village of Haworth, made famous by the Bronte sisters, the very essence of Pennine Yorkshire.
The cottages are ideally placed in the heart of beautiful countryside yet within easy access of superb attractions, vibrant towns, pretty villages and excellent walking country. Surrounded by hundreds of acres of grazed fields and meadows, they offer a fine range of well maintained self catering accommodation suitable for relaxing or ideal as a base for visiting near and far. Here are just a few examples:
Haworth Just half a mile away is the centre of the village of Haworth. Its steep Main street paved with stone setts is lined with historic inns, shops, galleries and cafes and leads down to one of the countrys best loved Steam Railways, famous as a location for films such as the Railway Children. Visitors can ride on the steam railway and visit the historic church and Georgian Parsonage Museum, home to the Bronte Sisters, which contains a vast collection of their artefacts. A well-marked path from the Church yard leads to the Pennine heather clad moors with paths up to Bronte Falls and Top Withens (Wuthering Heights). |

Saltaire Basking in the glory of its newly awarded status of World Heritage Site. Over 750,000 people a year visit Saltaire to stroll around the historic village created by one man: Sir Titus Salt. Salts Mill is a fantastic building and houses the worlds largest collection of work by international artist David Hockney, Salts Diner and a range of unique shops. There's also the chance to ride on a Victorian tramway to a funfair on the slopes of Shipley Glen or take a cruise on the Leeds Liverpool Canal. Take in the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television and you still haven't travelled more than 10 miles from the Cottages at West Field Farm!
Ilkley The spa town of Ilkley is also surrounded by glorious countryside. The southern slopes of the valley form Ilkley Moor, immortalised in Yorkshire's anthem On Ilkley Moor bahtat.
Skipton One of the finest Mediaeval Castles in the country makes for a great day out in Skipton, just 8 miles from the cottages, and within easy access of the Yorkshire Dales. Favourite places in the Dales include: Bolton Abbey, Grassington, Malham Cove, the Settle to Carlisle railway crossing Ribblehead Viaduct, Ripley Castle, Newby Hall and Gardens and our favourite: The Forbidden Corner.
Halifax Eureka! The Museum for Children was opened by Prince Charles and is Britain's first interactive museum designed for 3 to 12 year olds. The Piece Hall and Dean Clough Mills offer a superb insight into the textile heritage.
Even the Lake District, York and both Liverpool and Blackpool on the west coast and Whitby and Scarborough on the East coast are just about 60 miles away.
Not only are the cottages ideally placed for visiting and day trips, they themselves are steeped in history, some with mullion windows dating back to the late 17th Century. The scenery is stunning and the most notable of all its characteristics is the clean fresh air of the Pennine upland countryside.
We hope you are starting to get the picture! If you require any further information, then please do not hesitate to get in touch. We hope you will book a holiday or short break with us and we look forward to welcoming you soon.
Yours sincerely David and Clare Pickles |
